How we listen before we pick a song of the week

A weekly list is only as good as the listening behind it. Streaming counts and playlist placements tell part of the story, but they tend to reward songs that are already everywhere. At CD-ROM Musique we treat the numbers as a starting point, then spend time with the tracks themselves: full plays on decent headphones, a second listen on a laptop speaker or phone, and a third in the background while doing something else.
